ABOUT THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF RESTORATION AND ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ROYAL ORDERS OF THE BUNYORO-KITARA KINGDOM (2020)

Author: Aleksandar Bačko 1st OEBKK

Three important anniversaries for His Majesty Omukama (King) Solomon Iguru I and Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom are occurring during year 2020 – tenth anniversary of restoration of The Royal Order of the Omujwaara Kondo, as well as tenth anniversaries of establishment of The Royal Order of the Engabu and The Most Honourable Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega.

More precisely, The Royal Order of the Omujwaara Kondo (post-nominal letters: OOKB) was restored on March 22nd 2010. The Royal Order of the Engabu (post-nominal letters: OEBKK) was established on June 18th  and The Royal Order of the Engabu and The Most Honourable Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega on July 1st same year.[1]

According to the oral tradition, dignity of the Omujwaara Kondo is dating from the late 15th century, and it was established by Omukama Rukidi of Bunyoro. His Majesty Omukama Solomon Iguru I of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom used His right of fons honorum, to restore and modernize this ancient dignity, as The Royal Order of the Omujwaara Kondo (Order of the Coronet Wearer).[2]

The Royal Order of the Engabu (Order of the Shield) was established by His Majesty Omukama Solomon Iguru I of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, to replace old Royal Order of the Crown. According to the oral tradition, dignities connected with Order of the Crown are dating back roughly to the 17th century.[3]

The Most Honourable Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega is named after HM Omukama Chwa II Kabalega of Bunyoro, a national hero of Uganda and grandfather of HM Omukama (King) Solomon Iguru I.[4]

During previous ten years, The Royal Order of the Omujwaara Kondo, The Royal Order of the Engabu and The Most Honourable Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega developed, becoming significant and worldwide recognized Orders. His Majesty Omukama Solomon Iguru I of Bunyoro Kitara is The Grand Master of these Royal Orders.[5]

Members of The Royal Family of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom: HM Omugo Margareth Adyeri Karunga, HRH Crown Prince Rukidi David Mpuga and HRH Royal Princess Masamba Nkwanzi, are very important Members of these Royal Orders.[6]

Among distinguished Members of The Royal Order of the Engabu are: HRM Muedzul Lail Tan Kiram Sultan of Sulu and North Borneo, HIH Prince Ermias Sahle Selasie President of The Ethiopia Crown Council and His Grace The Right Reverend Gennadios Stantzios Orthodox Metropolitan of Botswana.[7]

Engabu

Unfortunately, some of distinguished members of these Royal Orders passed away, during these ten years. Among them were HE Don Carlos Gereda y de Borbón Marquis de Almazan (January 24th 1947 – August 29th 2017) and Right Honourable Eng Yabezi Kiiza (January 20th 1938 – August 1st 2016) former Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara.[8]

More details concerning these Royal Orders were presented in work named “Titles of Ugandan traditional rulers, royalty, chiefs, nobility and chivalry”, published in 2017.[9]

Significant Orders of The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, as The Royal Order of the Omujwaara Kondo, The Royal Order of the Engabu and The Most Honourable Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega will certainly keep flourishing for a long time, under guidance of HM Omukama Solomon Iguru I, as well as under guidance of His Majesty’s descendants.

FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF

THE ROYAL AND HASHEMITE ORDER OF THE PEARL

Five years ago, His Majesty Muedzul Lail Tan Kiram 35th Legitimate Sultan of Sulu and North Borneo decided, to use His sovereignty right of fons honorum, to create The Royal and Hashemite Order of the Pearl. This decision undoubtedly presented continuity of the ancient customs of the Royal Sultanate of Sulu.

During previous five years, The Royal and Hashemite Order of the Pearl (further: The Order) developed into significant international organization, based in Sulu. Members of Order’s six grades are citizens of various countries across the globe.

As any organization, during its past, The Order had some good, and some hard times. But, under wise leadership of its Grand Sayyid, all difficulties have been gradually overcome. Many tasks were done by The Order and for The Order, during previous five years.

Since its foundation, a significant number of Royalty, Nobility, Prelates and other distinguished persons became members of this Order.

Among distinguished members of The Order are: HRH Dom Duarte Pio Duke of Braganza Head of the Royal House of Portugal, HIRH Archduke Josef Karl von Habsburg, HRH Princess Margaret of Hohenberg, HRH Prince Vladimir Karageorgevich, HRH Princess Jelisaveta Karageorgevich, HRH Princess Brigitta Karageorgevich, HRH Princess Luciana Pallavicini Hassan, HM Omukama (King) Solomon Iguru I Babiito, HRH Prince Davit Bagrationi Mukhran Batonishvili Head of the Royal House of Georgia, HIH Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie, HRH Princess Mahera Hassan, HRH Prince Osman Rifat Ibrahim, HH Datu Cheong Ming Lam, HE Lech Wałęsa former Polish President and Nobel Prize Laureate, Hussin U.
